Location and Accessibility

Villareal is bordered by Villareal Bay to the north, Pinabacdao to the east, Talalora to the west, and Sta. Rita to the south. Its strategic location makes it easily accessible, with a driving distance of 62 km from Tacloban City and 58 km from Catbalogan City.

Rich Heritage and Nostalgic Memories

With over two hundred years of history, Villareal has grown from a small settlement to a thriving town with a population of over twenty-two thousand. Despite the growth and modernization, Villahanons hold onto nostalgic memories of home, especially during the celebration of the town fiesta in honor of St. Rose of Lima. The town's fiesta remains a cherished tradition that keeps locals connected to their roots.

Barangays and Economic Activity

Villareal is composed of 38 barangays, each contributing to the town's vibrant economy. Agriculture is the backbone of the local economy, with rice, coconut, corn, and banana as primary products. Traditional farming methods are still practiced, although some barangays have implemented modern agricultural programs like the Operation Land Transfer (OLT) program.

Other sources of livelihood include fishing, office employment, merchandising, and cottage industries such as mat weaving and firewood production. Despite the diverse economic activities, farming and fishing remain the most common livelihoods in Villareal.

Infrastructure and Services

Electric power in Villareal is provided by SAMELCO II (Samar Cooperative II), with 22 barangays connected to the power grid. However, 16 barangays still lack access to electricity, highlighting the need for further infrastructure development.

HOW TO GET THERE

To reach Villareal, you can travel by land or air, depending on your starting point. If you're coming from Tacloban City, the capital of Leyte province, you can take a scenic drive southwestward along the coastal road.
