Margosatubig, Zamboanga Del Sur

Margosatubig, situated in Zamboanga del Sur, is one of the province's oldest municipalities, alongside Pagadian City. Classified as a 4th class municipality, Margosatubig had a population of 34,461 people in 2000, residing in 6,560 households. It's the largest municipality in the second congressional district of Zamboanga del Sur, with an area of 11,169 hectares divided into 17 barangays. Located approximately 52 kilometers from Pagadian City, Margosatubig is a coastal town bordered by Lapuyan to the north, the Moro Gulf to the south, Dimataling and San Miguel to the east, and Dumanquillas Bay to the west.

Margosatubig acquired its municipal status in 1917, with Hon. Francisco Paragas serving as its first mayor. Despite its historical significance, it remained isolated from Pagadian City for a long time, accessible only by sea. This isolation ended with the construction of asphalt roads through the Philippine-Australian Development Assistance Program, connecting Margosatubig to Pagadian City and other areas accessible via the national highway.

The topography of Margosatubig consists of three main areas: a plateau in the western section, moderately sloping to rolling hills in the eastern sections, and flatlands predominant in the central and southern parts. Isolated mountains and low-lying hills complete its geographical landscape.

Primarily an agricultural town, Margosatubig dedicates 6,915 hectares to coconut intercropped with corn and rice, and another 1,453 hectares to coffee, bananas, and other crops. The remaining area is used for residential, commercial, and other purposes.

To reach Margosatubig, travelers can utilize various modes of transportation, including buses, vans, and private vehicles. The municipality is accessible via asphalt roads linked to Pagadian City and other areas connected by the national highway.
