Dapa is the Perfect Jumping-Off Point for Island Hopping in Siargao

Dapa is a town in the province of Surigao del Norte, Philippines. A small but vibrant city, home to a diverse community of residents, including Aboriginal people and immigrants from other parts of the country. 

Geographically, Dapa is located on the northeastern coast of Siargao Island and is known as the gateway of Siargao's beautiful beaches, world-class surfing spots, and natural attractions. Therefore, tourism is one of Dapa's main industries as Dapa is the gateway to the rest of Siargao Island. 

Dapa City has several beautiful beaches, including the popular Cloud 9 Beach, which is a must for surfing enthusiasts.  Dapa can be reached by several means of transport. If you are coming from Manila or other major cities, the nearest airport is Sayak Airport in the city of Del Carmen, about 30 minutes from Dapa. From the airport, visitors can reach Dapa by van or tricycle. Another option is to take a ferry or boat from Surigao City to Dapa. Travel time is approximately 2-3 hours, depending on weather conditions.

  • Cloud 9 - This is one of the most famous surf spots in the world and a must for surf enthusiasts. The beach is located in General Luna and is known for its breaking waves.  
  • Naked Island - As the name suggests, this is a small uninhabited island with nothing but white sand and crystal-clear water. It's the perfect place to swim, sunbathe, and take Instagram-worthy photos.  
  • Sugba Lagoon - A beautiful lagoon in the town of Del Carmen, known for its emerald waters and stunning scenery. Visitors can kayak, paddleboard, and swim in the lagoon.  
  • Magpupungko Rock Pools - This is a natural wonder in the town of Pilar with rock pools that form at low tide. Visitors can swim and jump in the pool and enjoy stunning ocean views. 
  • Guyam Island - A small idyllic island off the coast of General Luna. A popular island-hopping spot, known for its white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and coconut trees.  
  • Taktak Falls - Beautiful waterfalls in the city of Santa Monica, surrounded by lush greenery and stunning rock formations. Visitors can swim in the cool, refreshing waters and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. 
  •  Pacifico Beach - A secluded beach in the town of San Isidro, known for its rugged beauty and world-class surf breaks. The perfect place for surfers and beach lovers looking for a quieter, less crowded beach experience. 
  •  Maasin River - A scenic river in the city of Maasin, known for its crystal clear water and stunning scenery. Visitors can enjoy kayaking, swimming, and the tranquility of the river.

HOW TO GET THERE

Here are some ways to get there:

By plane - The fastest and most convenient way to get to Siargao is by plane. There are several airlines that fly to Siargao's Sayak Airport, including Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, and SkyJet. Flights depart from major cities such as Manila, Cebu, and Davao.

By ferry - Another option is to take a ferry from Surigao City to Siargao. Ferries depart daily from the Lipata Ferry Terminal in Surigao City and take about 3-4 hours to reach Dapa Port in Siargao. There are several ferry companies that operate this route, including Evaristo & Sons Sea Transport, Fortune Angel, and Dapa Express.

By land and sea - If you're coming from nearby provinces, you can take a bus or van to Surigao City, then take a ferry to Siargao. Buses and vans depart from cities such as Butuan, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro. You can also drive to Surigao City and park your car at the ferry terminal.

Once you arrive in Siargao, there are several transportation options to get around the island. You can rent a motorcycle or bicycle, take a tricycle or habal-habal (motorcycle taxi), or hire a private car or van. Many resorts and hotels also offer airport or pier transfers for their guests.
