Baliangao, Misamis Occidental

Baliangao is a coastal town located in the province of Misamis Occidental, Philippines. History:

Baliangao has a long and storied history that dates back to pre-colonial times. The town was originally settled by the Subanon people, an indigenous group that has lived in the area for thousands of years. During the American colonial period, Baliangao was established as a municipality in 1918.

As of 2020, the population of Baliangao is approximately 18,433  people. The town's economy is primarily based on agriculture and fishing, with coconut, rice, and fish being the main products. Baliangao is also home to several small businesses and cottage industries that produce handicrafts, furniture, and other products.

Events and Festivals:

This event features a procession, mass, and other religious ceremonies. Another popular event is the Baliangao Founding Anniversary, which is celebrated every August 10th. This event features a parade, cultural performances, and other festivities.


Things to Do:

Baliangao has plenty of attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy. One of the most popular attractions is the Baliangao Protected Landscape and Seascape, which is a protected area that covers over 12,000 hectares of land and sea. This area is home to a variety of wildlife, including dolphins, sea turtles, and a diverse array of fish and coral species. Visitors can take boat tours to explore the area and see the wildlife up close.


Other popular attractions in Baliangao include the Balatik Waterfalls, which are located in the nearby town of Plaridel, and the Baliangao Plaza, which is a beautiful public park that features a playground, walking paths, and a fountain.


How to Get There:

Baliangao is located approximately 49 kilometers northwest of the city of Oroquieta. If you are traveling by land, you can take a bus or van from Oroquieta to Baliangao. The trip takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. 

If you are traveling by air, the nearest airport is Laguindingan International Airport, which is located approximately 146 kilometers from Baliangao. From the airport, you can take a taxi or van to Oroquieta and then follow the above directions.
