  • Giniringan Waterfall

Giniringan Falls is a must-see for nature lovers and adventure seekers looking for hidden gems in Santiago, Agusan del Norte. With its stunning beauty and serene surroundings, this waterfall is undoubtedly one of the city's most notable attractions and cannot be missed.

Giniringan Waterfall is located in Barangay del Pilar, visitors must hike for about an hour through the forest and cross several streams. The hike can be daunting, but the view of the cascading waterfalls is well worth it. 

The waterfall features multi-tiered waterfalls with crystal clear blue water. The first tier of the waterfall is the largest and most impressive,  dropping from a height of about 50 feet into a large natural pool perfect for swimming. The second tier is smaller and drains into a shallow pool, perfect for a refreshing swim. 

One of the unique features of Ginilingan Falls is the presence of natural rocks that look like chairs or benches where visitors can sit and relax while enjoying the cool mist of the falls. The rocks also serve as natural water slides for those looking for a fun and exciting experience.

As well as swimming and taking pictures, visitors can also enjoy a picnic lunch at the waterfall. The area is shaded by trees and is a pleasant place to relax and enjoy the scenery. Visitors should practice proper waste disposal and be careful not to leave any traces to preserve the beauty of the falls. 

The best time to enjoy Jinilingan Falls is during the rainy season when the currents are at their strongest. Also, the trek can be muddy and wet, so it is advisable to wear suitable trekking shoes and bring extra clothing. 


  • Mapaso Hot and Cold Springs

Mapaso Hot and Cold Springs is located in Barangay San Isidro, Santiago and Agusan del Norte. It is a natural hot spring that is divided into two pools, hot water, and cold water. The temperature of the hot spring is 36℃-40℃, and the temperature of the cold spring is 26℃-28℃. 

 The hot springs are said to be effective in relieving muscle and joint pain. Cold springs, on the other hand, offer a refreshing dip to cool off after soaking in the hot springs. Along with hot and cold pools, the area is surrounded by lush trees and provides a relaxing atmosphere for visitors. There are also smaller cabins and cottages available for rent for a small fee, perfect for picnics and family gatherings. 

 To reach the Mapaso Hot Springs and Cold Springs, you can take a bus or van from Butuan City or Surigao City to Santiago. You can get to Barangay San Isidro by renting a Jabal Jabal (motorcycle) or tricycle from the city of Santiago. The hot springs are about 5 km from the city center and the journey takes about 20 minutes. Pricing and other information 

A minimal entry fee is required to enter the Mapaso Hot and Cold Springs. Cabin rentals and other amenities such as grill stations and restrooms are also available for a fee. 

You are advised to bring your own food and drink as there are no restaurants or shops nearby. Visitors are also encouraged to practice proper waste disposal and keep the area clean.

Before entering the hot spring, it is important to check the temperature of the hot water first. The temperature may be too hot for some people, so it is recommended to enter slowly and not stay in the water for too long.

  • Mount Mabajo

Mount Mabajo is a popular hiking spot that offers a challenging and rewarding adventure for experienced hikers. It is part of the Kitanglad Mountains, known for its diverse flora and fauna. This mountain has an altitude of 1,082 meters above sea level, making him the second-highest mountain in the Kitanglad Mountains after Mount Lumot. The trail is steep and rocky, requiring hikers to reach the summit through dense forests and meadows. 

The hike to the summit of Babahozan takes approximately 4-6 hours, depending on the hiker's pace and fitness level. Along the way, hikers encounter a variety of flora and fauna, including endemic birds and orchids found only in the Kitanglad Mountains. 

The summit of Mount Mabajo offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountain range, including neighboring Mount Lumot and the vast Santiago countryside. The summit is also an ideal place to take photos and enjoy a break before descending. 

Trekkers wishing to take on the challenge of Mount Mabajo are advised to bring sufficient food, water, and suitable hiking equipment.   • The nearest airport is the Butuan Airport, which is around 68 kilometers away from Santiago.
  • You can take a domestic flight from Manila or Cebu to Butuan.
  • From Butuan Airport, you can take a bus or van going to Santiago.

By Land:

  • You can also take a bus from Manila or Cebu to Butuan City.
  • From Butuan City, you can take a bus or van going to Santiago.
  • Alternatively, you can also take a bus from Davao City or Surigao City going to Butuan City, and then transfer to a bus or van going to Santiago.
By Private Vehicle:

  • If you have your own vehicle, you can take the national highway going to Santiago. The municipality is around 68 kilometers away from Butuan City, 125 kilometers away from Surigao City, and 274 kilometers away from Davao City.
It is recommended to check the schedules of the transportation beforehand to avoid any inconvenience during your travel.
