Located in the northeastern part of Mindanao, Socorro is a small town of about 10,000 people. Despite its size, it has some of the most beautiful islands and beaches in the country. Here's everything you need to know before visiting Socorro. 


How to Get  There 

Socorro can be reached by plane or by boat. The nearest airport is in Surigao City, which takes about 2.5 hours by land. From the airport, you can take a van or bus to the port of Hayangabon, where you can catch a boat to Socorro. The boat takes approximately 1 hour.  Alternatively, you can fly to Siargao Island and take a ferry to Socorro. The ferry takes about 2 hours. 

 

What to See and Do 

  •   Sohoton Cove National Park 

One of Socorro's main attractions is  Sohoton Cove National Park. The park has a stunning lagoon surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. To reach the lagoon you must pass through a small cave that leads to a narrow channel. The canal leads to a lagoon filled with crystal clear water and is surrounded by lush greenery. 

Besides the lagoon, there are other attractions such as Hagkang Cave,  known for its unique sound, and  Magkukuob Cave, which has a small pool inside.  

  • Bucas Grande Island 

Bucas Grande Island is another must-see in Socorro. The island has a variety of attractions, including the Blue Lagoon,  a calm and picturesque bay with crystal clear waters, and Lake Tiktican, a small lake surrounded by towering limestone cliffs.  

You can also visit the Jellyfish Sanctuary, where you can swim with thousands of non-stinging jellyfish. An unforgettable and surreal experience. 


  • Island Hopping 

Socorro is surrounded by small islands, each with its own charm. Island hopping is a popular activity in the area and you can rent a boat to get to the best islands. Islands worth visiting include Daku Island, Naked Island, and Guyam Island.
