Marihatag's Natural Wonders: A Nature Lover's Paradise

Marihatag, Surigao del Sur is home to the Manobo and Visayan peoples, who have their own culture and traditions. Known for their weaving skills, the Manobo people make traditional clothing and accessories from abaca fibers. The Visayas, on the other hand, are known for their agricultural and fishing skills. They have their own dialect that is different from the Visayan dialect spoken in other parts of the Philippines.  During the Spanish colonial period, Marihatag was known as "Barrio Barrobo". It was later renamed  Marihatag,  derived from "Mari" meaning love, and "Hatag" meaning "to give" or "offer". The city has officially declared a municipality on June 18, 1966.  

 In recent years, Marihatag has focused on developing its tourism industry, showcasing its natural beauty such as beaches, waterfalls, and caves. The city is also known for its delicious seafood and traditional delicacies. In addition, the local government has initiated various programs and initiatives to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Manobo and Visayan peoples.

  •  Araw ng Marihatag 

Every year on June 29th, Marihatag celebrates a town festival in honor of its patron saint, Saint Peter. Celebrations usually last for several days and include various events such as street dances, parades, sports competitions, and beauty pageants. 


  •  Founder's Day

Marihatag celebrates its Founder's Day on December 31st of each year. Celebrations typically include cultural shows, musical performances, and fireworks. Dagit Festival - The Dagit Festival is a week-long festival held in September to promote the city's tourism industry. The festival features a variety of activities such as cultural parades, street dances, agricultural fairs, and sports competitions.  


  •  Agricultural Fair 

Marihatag also hosts the annual Agricultural Fair in May, which showcases the city's agricultural products such as rice, fruits, and vegetables.  

  •  Christmas Celebrations 

The Christmas season at Marihatag is celebrated with a Parole Making Contest, Christmas Carols, and a Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. 

 These events and celebrations showcase the rich culture and traditions of Marihatag and provide opportunities for locals and tourists to come together and enjoy the celebrations.
