Discovering the Thrilling Waterfalls of Carmen, Surigao

The city of Carmen was founded on October 7, 1949, and was originally part of the city of Lanusa. It is named after Carmen Acharón Pimentel, wife of Governor Vicente L.  Pimentel. The town started as a small village but gradually grew as more settlers came to the area.

One of the most important events in Carmen's history is the Battle of Surigao Strait during World War II. This naval battle was fought between the Imperial Japanese  Navy and the Allies and was considered one of the largest naval battles in the Pacific during the war. The Surigao Strait is off  Carmen, and many  Japanese warships have sunk in this area.

Apart from its historical importance, Carmen is also known for its natural attractions. One of the city's most popular destinations  is Tinuan Falls, a three-tiered waterfall  often referred to as the "Niagara Falls of the Philippines."
