The Ultimate Adventure Guide to President Quirino Town, Sultan Kudarat

President Quirino is a small town in the Sultan Kudarat province of the Philippines. When the Sultan of Kudarat established his own state in 1956, New His Buruan was renamed Presidente Quirino in honor of the late president. 

Today, President Quirino is a small growing community known for its agricultural industry, especially the production of rice, corn, and bananas. It is also home to several natural attractions, including Lake Blouang, his second largest lake in Mindanao, and the Valley of Allah Wildlife Sanctuary, a wildlife sanctuary home to endangered flora and fauna.

President Quirino has a rich history and cultural heritage worth exploring. The people are known for their warm hospitality and adherence to local traditions and ways of life.  Although relatively neglected compared to other communities in Sultan Kudarat, however, There are many things to do and places to visit that offer a glimpse into the local culture and way of life.

  • Visitors can take guided tours and learn about the local flora and fauna. 
  • Interact with the locals and learn about their way of life and traditions. 
  • Embark on a culinary journey – President Quirino is known for its local cuisine, especially freshwater fish such as tilapia and catfish. 
  • The Sambuyawan Festival is a local celebration held annually in President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat. The Sambuyawan Festival is a cultural event that showcases the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the indigenous Tiruray people.
  • The Sambuyawan Festival is a unique cultural experience that offers an insight into the local way of life and traditions.
  • Visitors can witness the locals perform traditional dances, such as the "Tiruray Tribal Olympics" and "Barangay Booth Contest. " During the festival, visitors can also taste the local delicacies, such as the "Inatata" (a dish made from sticky rice and coconut milk), "Mamalabong" (a dish made from grated cassava), and "Litsiyam" (a dish made from fish). 

HOW TO GET THERE

There are a few different options for getting to President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat from General Santos. Here are two possibilities:

By Private Vehicle:

  • Head north on the National Highway towards Koronadal City.
  • From Koronadal City, take the road towards Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
  • Once you reach Isulan, continue on the National Highway towards Tacurong City.
  • President Quirino is a municipality located along the National Highway, after the town of Esperanza and before Tacurong City.

By Public Transportation:

  • Take a van or bus from General Santos City to Koronadal City.
  • From Koronadal City, take another van or bus to Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
  • From Isulan, you can take a tricycle or jeepney to President Quirino.
