BONGLOY FESTIVAL
The city of Villanueva is celebrating the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a city holiday, with a series of events from December 9 to 13 this year. On December 11, 2015, the city hosted the Bongloy Festival, the first street dance competition featuring 11 barangays on the city's basketball court in front of the church.

The 11 teams competing in the barangay, wearing creative and colorful costumes, hats, and accessories, did their best throughout the event. All the dancers were lively and smiling and all performed the story of Bongloy with enthusiasm.

In order to outdo each other, they show complexities with the barangay, even revealing the real 'bathroom' in the dance. In each barangay, between 20 and 30 dancers of all ages and genders, accompanied by parents and children, camaraderie from the local villages dominated the event. It really was a night that showcased the culture and history of Villanueva.

Teams are judged on skill and performance, creativity and originality of choreography, an adaptation of Bongloy's story, costumes and props, and music.

The main winner of the evening was Barangay Balakanas in third place. Barangay Imelda took second place and the Grand Champion, Barangay Poblacion 1. They also won last year's Mardi Gras competition. Poblacion 1 won  50,000 pesos and a trophy. After the announcement of the winners, Villanueva's night sky was colored with colorful fireworks.
