Gingoog, Misamis Oriental | Things to Do
Gingoog is a second-class city in the Misamis Oriental province of the Philippines. Like other communities in the Philippines that have retained the Spanish spelling, the city's name is written as Gingoog but pronounced as HEE-Ngu-og, since it originated as the word binukid.
The term Gingoog originally comes from the word "hingoog" meaning "good luck" by a Lumad tribe. It was one of the oldest cities in the province of Misamis Oriental, predating the province's capital and economic center, Cagayan de Oro, which was founded in 1871.
Gingoog is located in Binuangan Province in Misamis Oriental, in the North Region of Mindanao. The city is approximately 122 kilometers (76 miles) east of Cagayan de Oro and 74 kilometers (46 miles) west of Butuan. Gingoog has a diverse and complementary but relatively unexplored range of tourist attractions. The main ones are green mountains, waterfalls, beaches, and other natural attractions, but access to these attractions is limited and difficult.
With proper planning, development, and promotion, the town of Gingoog should be able to offer tourist attractions and activities for a wider range of general and special tourism markets, such as mountaineering, boating/canoeing on the Odiongan River, cultural tourism, and other alternative activities.
TOURIST SPOTS
The city has various natural attractions. There are beaches, caves, lakes, and man-made attractions. But the famous and most visited by locals are the waterfalls, which is why the town is also called the "City of Waterfalls". The main ones are Tiklas, Liyang, Kilubag, and Bangbang waterfalls, which are easily accessible by motorbike or vehicle. The rest requires a 30-minute to 1-hour hike through rough terrain, best for serious thrill-seekers.
