Balingoan, Misamis Oriental

Balingoan is a fifth-class municipality in the Misamis Oriental Province of the Philippines. As of the 2020 census, it has 1,020 residents. The municipality has a land area of 57.80 square kilometers or 22.32 square miles which constitutes 1.85% of Misamis Oriental's total area. Formerly part of Talisayan, it is gained independence on March 1, 1952. According to local legend, it derived its name from the word "John's Fishing Net" ( John's Fishing Net), which later became simply "Love you". 

In terms of Economy, Balingoan mainly depended on Agriculture producing copra, fish, shellfish, fruit, vegetables, animal meat, and dairy exporting in different parts of the Philippines. San Alonso de Rodríguez is the famous fest held every 29th of May

The Port of Balingoan is the main port for travelers heading to the provincial island of Camiguin. Balingoan is approximately 86 kilometers from Cagayan de Oro and takes approximately 1.5 hours by bus

Balingoan is politically subdivided into 9 barangays.

TOURISM

Covering 66,515 hectares, the protected landscape of the Mimbilisan forests and agricultural land contributes to a critical watershed. The Mimbilisan forests are composed of Dipterocarps, Moraceae species of shrubs and trees, vines and lianas, palm trees and numerous deep tree roots such as Dipterocarps regulate water inflow and outflow and control floods and droughts in the region. 

Important flora and fauna found in the Mimbilisan Conservation Area are Red Lauan, Tarictic Hornbill, Grass Owl, Black Hornbill, Big-billed Raven, Junglefowl, Philippine Long-tailed Macaque, Philippine Cobra, Lizard Monitors, and Crayfish. Coconut trees dominate agricultural areas. In order to realize the ecotourism potential of the Mimbilisan Conservation Area, funding has been requested from the national government to construct various ecotourism structures. 

Various activities have been undertaken to strengthen the protected area's functions as an important watershed and location for ecotourism and other recreational activities. Between 2011 and 2012, 40 hectares were planted with Narra, Red and White Lauan, and Molave ​​as part of the National Greening Program. 

Activities that can be introduced through a well-thought-out ecotourism plan include walks in the forest; Appreciation of nature and biodiversity  through walks among plants; Environmental education tours that highlight the site's importance  as a critical site for bird watching can also be developed as a protected mimbilisanThe landscape serves as a feeding and nesting station for migratory birds
