Things to do in Kapalong, Davao Del Norte

Kapalong is a 1st class municipality in Davao Del Norte, Philippines, considered one of the oldest towns in the province founded on July 8, 1948, when the founding district of Tagum split, other were Tagum, Oanabi, San Isidro, Santo Tomas, and Kapalong between 1941 to 2004 respectively.  

It has a five-hectare botanical lawn inside a giant banana plantation, wherein a big selection of waling-waling and cattleya orchids thrive. The city additionally has a five-hectare botanical and floral lawn internal a giant banana plantation. Various animal species, along with the endangered Philippine eagle, mouse, deer, and tarsier, are stated to wander withinside the area. Situated throughout the Municipal Hall of Kapalong is the brand new Town Square cum Theme park.

The municipality covers an area of ​​830.01 square kilometers or 320.47 square miles, which is 24.25% of the total area of ​​Davao del Norte astonishing municipality has a population of 81,068 inhabitants, according to the 2020 census.

Typhoon Pablo

Back on December 9, 2012, when super typhoon Pablo landed and hit all over the province of Davao del Norte. Kapalong is one of the severely affected losing millions in agricultural crops, and families in crisis as their livelihood was badly deluged by the catastrophe. 

Despite the odds, positivity remains in all those who experience tragedy. The community stands strong for the recovery, showing their smiles, and remaining grateful for surviving the typhoon. A few years after the tragedy,  Kapalong was recovering a way better as they start to replant the major sources of livelihood, the Bananas, and Rice. 

The local government also focuses on other departments and sectors, especially tourism. In fact Kapalong has something to be proud of; 


The MUSA Festival
The municipality of Kapalong is on its way to inviting investors and tourists in celebration of the Musa Festival celebrated every 1st of August.  Residents of Kapalong's 14 barangays grill together a kilometer of Banana (Cardaba) and give it away to all visitors and those traversing the town.  Yearly, Banana Festival attracts thousands of tourists coming from the province which contributed to economic benefits for the banana industry and local residents. 

The festival derived its name from the scientific name of the banana, "Musa Paradisiaca Sapientum"

The Caves beneath the Waterfalls 

When traveling to the municipality of Kapalong, one must see its caves sites that why it gained its namesake of “Caving Capital of Mindanao”. Plus the bonus of astonishing waterfalls. Kapalong is king with regard to caves. If you're a cave enthusiast, then you shouldn't visit the Kapalong Yet!

The Suaon Natural Park, where a series of limestone caves have created intricate and amazing natural formations underground. Visitors can explore the Okbot, Otso, and Alena Caves and go sightseeing at Sua-on Underground river. You can also visit the Pugad cave. 

The city also has a five-acre botanical and flower garden amidst a large banana plantation. Several animal species including the endangered Philippine eagle, mice, deer, and tarsier are said to roam the area.

Relax and fall in love with the astonishing beauty of  Tugtuganan Falls. It is surrounded by lush green trees with crystal clear water on sunny days everyone can take a dip and swim through the deep pool to be under the water gushing from the falls. 

You can really enjoy it even no talent for swimming for its cool climate with the jet of cold water cascading from the falls. Tugtuganan Creek,  however, is a great place of endless adventure. Everyone freshens up when wanting back to your meeting place after the long hours of canyonering activities with extreme experiences.

  • They will give you a trained tourist guide
  • You can visit the caves and waterfall in 1 day as included in the package
  • The package tour is 600 pesos, SULIT!
