Troops from the 107th Division of the 10th MD were ordered to block road No. 1 in the Ising-Tagum River area to stem retreating enemy forces before the 19th Infantry advanced north of Davao. 

The 19th Infantry began moving northeast from Davao on Highway #1 toward Ising to establish contact with guerrilla forces operating in the area.
