San Isidro, Davao Del Norte, Tourism and History

The Municipality of San Isidro is a 5th-class municipality in the province of Davao del Norte, Philippines, with an abundance of eco-cultural wonders and one of the quickest eco-tourism sites withinside the province and a getaway for fun, thrill, learning, and adventure. It has a population of 27,233 people according to the 2020 census.

San Isidro was created on June 26, 2004, after the ratification of Republic Act (RA) No. 9265. On June 2, 2022, RA No. 11814, the act renaming San Isidro as Sawata, as well as it's municipal proper, Barangay Sawata as Poblacion, lapsed into law.

The Economy

Town blessed with culture, fertile land, and other natural resources exposing as well as the diverse culture that comes with it as it caters to people with many cultures. The town where Lumads, Muslims, and Christians live together in harmony.

The economy relies upon the majority of Agriculture. San Isidro is the major producer of local chocolate called Tableya crafted from dried Cacao seeds, one of the ingredients in making Davao chocolate. The town is also dubbed the “Land of brown Gold”.

The effects of conventional ways of living in the villages, however, the natural surroundings are in danger, slush and burn farming and unlawful logging are rampant that influence the environment negatively. It may be very simple that the woodland is threatened withinside the present-day country of the metropolis in addition to the changing lifestyle and fast development of the city. 

Despite the government initiatives in addressing environmental issues, the impact of climate change is undeniable and makes the villages and towns even more vulnerable to floods and droughts.


The municipal center of San Isidro is located between the town of Kapalong, Talaingod, Laak town, new Corella, and Tagum city based at a great-circle distance. San Isidro is politically subdivided into 13 Barangays, Sawata (Poblacion) served as the Town Capital.
