Its complete land region is 48,548 hectares and is partitioned into 23 towns or barrios where the Poblacion is the fundamental place.

As per the 2020 statistics, it has a populace of 62,737 individuals

Bansalan was a woodland primitive and the natives were Bagobos. In early times, the Bagobo society was partitioned into Datus or clan leaders, freemen, and slaves. The Datus decipher standard regulations. Relationships were organized, the husband to be's folks choosing the lady of the hour and arranging the match or so-called arranged marriage.

The occupants in this early settlement worshiped the anitos and their religion is a pantheon of endless spirits, information on which dwells in elderly people. The Bagobos produce bins managed with dots and strands, lavish weapons, and trimmed metal boxes got done with chimes. A metal box where they kept betel nuts is indivisible.

President Elpidio Querino declared Bansalan as a standard town on September 18, 1952, remembering two flourishing towns of Matanao and Kialeg for the southwest and western piece of Bansalan which later became an independent town.  A major number of transients from different pieces of the nation yet principally from Cebu got comfortable with Bansalan which radically changed the existence of the Bagobos, the local occupants of the spot. The Bagobos withdrew to the hinterlands, and the pioneers assumed control over the running and further improvement of the town.
