Road Trip to Marawi City - 2022 visit

Another opportunity to welcome me when I revisit the city of Marawi in 2022. The weather is warm and the climate is calm. During this visit, we have nothing else to do but take a road trip inside the Marawi City and we will start this trip in the town of Baloi in Lanao Del Sur; a home of the majestic waterfalls, the Ma. Cristina Falls. Monday morning we traveled through the cities of Baloi and Saguiran less than a 2-hour tram ride to arrive in Marawi City

We first headed to the Padian District, the closest place to ground zero. The bloody battle between government forces and the ISIS-inspired Militant group took place in Philippine history - the Marawi Siege. It was unfortunate because we were not allowed to enter because there was important activity inside.

So we just turned our route back and reached the Mindanao State University (MSU) compound, an open university that is famous here in Mindanao. The University compound is one of the most active areas within the city as it is complete with facilities here; there is a sports center, wet and dry market, restaurants, and food stalls selling various local dishes.

Marawi City is known as the Islamic City of the Philippines, a 4th class component city and capital of Lanao del Sur province. It is situated on the shore of Lake Lanao which is considered the largest lake in Mindanao and the second largest lake in the Philippines and is counted as one of the 15 most ancient lakes globally.
