The Tinago Falls of Iligan - Mindanao
Tinago Falls makes its name as a primary tourist attraction in Iligan City, coined as a City of Majestic Waterfalls were Ma. Christina is also located. Tinago means hidden, Gitago in Bisaya or Tinago in Tagalog, which the waterfalls name came from. Aside from that, the waterfalls owing 500 steps downhill before they can be reached their feet.
This breathtaking waterfall is located between the town of Linamon and Iligan City in the “Waterfalls Capital of the South “, Lanao Del Norte Province. There are 27 waterfalls in the City but one of the most picturesque and breathtaking amongst Waterfalls is the Tinago Falls.
Tinago Falls water flows from the Lanao Lake entrance in the town of Baloi towards the Agus River, passing through two channels; one goes to the famous Ma. Christina Falls, and; the other one’s flowing through Tinago Falls. The fresh waterfall from a 240-foot cliff falls into the deep blue-green natural basin-like lagoon that tourists can enjoy swimming. Appreciate the refreshingly cold water and will ensure you that your effort spent in taking down every stair after the long trek will be replaced by satisfaction.
HOW TO GET THERE
The closest Airport to reach Iligan City is Laguindingan International Airport (CDO). Direct flights are available from Cebu, Manila, Clark Davao City, and Zamboanga City. At the Airport, catch up a minibus or Van bound for Iligan City, then; get off to the Iligan City Bus terminal. Then, follow the route below;
From Cagayan De Oro; each Bulua Integrated Bus Terminal via Taxi or jeep. Then, catch up a bus heading to Iligan City. Reaching Tinago Falls takes two kinds of route choices;
Buruun Route (Iligan City)
Take a jeepney ride bound for Buruun, then; ask your driver to drop you off at the crossing going to Tinago Falls. Hire a motorcycle (habal-habal) going to Tinago falls jump-off area. The fare will charge you from P50 - P100 pesos per ride. Then, walk for more or less ten (10) minutes to reach the falls entrance. From the entrance, get on and walk down to the main point for a 15-30 minutes walk. Extra care is necessary since the steps are quite slippery.
Linamon Route
Take a jeepney ride bound for Buruun, then; ask your driver to drop you off at Linamon-Buruan boundary where Tinago Falls can be reached. Then, a short walk to pass by a small Market (talipapa). Hire a Motorcycle (habal-habal) to take to Tinago Falls. The ranging P50 - P100 pesos for a single ride depends on how you bargain. Ask your driver to bring you off to the Jump-off point in Linamon, just 15 takes minutes of travel time. From the resort, follow the steps going to the main falls.
