Visiting Tinuy-an Falls during the Covid19 period | Bislig, Surigao del Sur
The month of August, I went back to Bislig city in Surigao de Sur from Tagum City. It was afternoon when I left Tagum City so I will definitely spend the night on the road because it is about 3 hours drive by private car. This is my first visit to Bislig City during Covid19 so the city of Bislig is in General Community Quarantine (GCQ). Checkpoints at each border are definitely strict in addition to the strict protocols and curfew hours.
Past 8:00 in the evening when I reached the city of Bislig. Thank you for being allowed to enter the city borders. They are only allowed to be inside the city for a limited to 24 hours. Better to find something to eat before went to the staff house, so, we ended up on the Bay walk.
There are many cheap eateries in this area and many food options available; there are grilled seafood, soups like "Bulalo" and "Balbacua". They also have raw meats, a wide selection of seafood being offered which can be cooked by their chef.
The next morning, need to be more productive for my work to most of my remaining time since I was only given 24 hours of stay inside the city and had to exit in due time. After the field visit, we were about to pass a famous tourist attraction in the area so I decided to take a quick side trip - the Tinuy-an Falls. For the second time, I will visit this famous waterfall.
Tinuy-an Falls is popular not only in the Province of Surigao del Sur but also throughout the Country; tagged by many as “ the little Niaga Falls” of the Philippines because of the elongated shape of the entrance. In 2018, the said waterfall was proclaimed as a protected area in the CARAGA region
There are many activities that can be done here when tourism is still active in the province. You can rent a raft to get to the mouth of the waterfall, take a bath and climb to the very top of the waterfall. But so far it is still banned by the management as part of the restriction as a result of Covid 19.
According to the receptionist, the influx of tourism has really slowed; in fact, only an average of 10-15 people visit here on weekdays, bigger when weekend, however, far from the time when there was no covid19.
To those who want to go here. only residents of the CARAGA region are currently allowed to enter Tinuy-an falls as of this time.
HOW TO GET HERE:
From Davao City, catch up a bus from Ecoland transport terminal bound for Mangagoy/ Bislig City. Get off at Mangagoy Bus Terminal, then, ride a tricycle or rent a single motor going to Tinuy-an Falls.
From Butuan City, catch up a bus from Butuan Overland terminal bound for Mangagoy/ Bislig City. Get off at the Bus stop in Poblacion, then, ride a tricycle or motorcycle to reach the Tinuy-an Falls.
