Surigao del Norte | 1-day visit in Claver Town

The city of Claver is located in the province of Surigao del Norte on the island of Mindanao with a population of according to the 2020 Census. Situated between the city of Carascal to the south and Gugaquit on the west, Claver is thick with its mineral deposits such as iron, nickel, copper, and silver deposits. The mining site operates just 10 kilometers from the main city.

The month of July, I visited this place for the first time. The life of the people is quiet and simple where utmost of them engage in husbandry and fishing. In this 1 day visit, I compactly voyaged the Claver town’s attractions and the site near downtown.

The Town Itself

The main city can be said to be fleetly sprouting new establishments, the municipal hall is made of modern structure with a full glass of walls. Indeed so, the antique houses made of hardwood walls and stairs are still noticeable in some streets. Those antique structures remained standing through the years which is still noteworthy to this day.

Claver is a developing town as numerous fiscal institutions exist similar to banks, pawnshops, and further. The town is accessible by transportation through their public transport Terminal. Although Mall's existence is way far, the town has large grocery stores and other commercial shops.

St. Peter Church of Claver

Along the way not far down from the city hall is a small church with iconic design.  I incontinently delved to identify the said church and came to know that it's the patron saint St. Peter Claver Church. Located in Rizal road, this church has an antique design which makes it a state of the art of Claver town. Jubilee is famed every 9th-day of September.

The Boardwalk

Claver town faces the pacific ocean so it can be said that this city has hidden treasures on the seacoast. Before the Autumn, passing the coastal road is Bay walk or locally called it “the Boardwalk”. We stop a bit to but snack in some small food stalls, have a short walk along the boardwalk.

It is a new place to me, so I walk at the long bridge fronting the small island and take some shots, eating street food while watching the Sun sluggishly set in the mountains.

The Seafood

The ocean of this City is incontrovertibly rich. Piecemeal from the beautiful bank, the goods are still cheap, especially the fresh kinds of seafood. On this visit, a friend prepared Crabs and Shrimps; cooked in coconut milk, outgunned with melted cheese and original spices. It was my first time try tasting coconut milk with mixed cheese. My friend also prepared his original tinolang manok, sinuglaw and Pork marinated.  So good!
